Wanderfolk Spirits – Guthrie, OK

On the way to Guthrie, we saw a couple of Route 66 roadside attractions. One was the Leaning Tower of Texas, located in Groom, Texas. It's an old water tower stuck into the ground at an odd angle.

We also drove by an art deco Conoco station that looked so retro.

We arrived in Guthrie, Oklahoma, to 85 degree sunshine!

For this Harvest Host location, the parking was a 16 minute walk away in a city park with free electrical.  At first we thought this was really unusual, but the park was huge and could accomodate two or three hundred RV'rs.  There was four of us so we had plenty of room.

After getting setup, we walked back through town to the distillery.  I had an Old Fashioned and Karen had a Gin Tonic made from their own spirits.  They poured the liquor separately so you could taste it before pouring it into your drink.  They were both delicious.  We bought some of their Gin to bring home.  Everything came to $20!

We met a couple who were also retired and semi-retired, named Cheryl and Mark and had a nice conversation.  They were full time RV'rs and have a place in Montana where they park for the summer, an RV resort with an uncovered cement pad and eventually will have a pool and other nice amenities.  They own the land, it's deeded, and they have full hook-ups.  They said they paid around $69K for theirs, but now they are going for $129K. In the winter they travel in the south in between staying with their daughters down in the Vegas area.

They established residency in South Dakota, which they accomplished by spending 24 hours there and setting up a P.O. box.  So, their driver's licenses and vehicle registrations will all be from South Dakota.  A great idea to reduce taxes in retirement years.

The town of Guthrie, OK was charming.  I loved the architecture and the friendly vibe of the place.  Neat little town.
