Quarry Pond/Deception Pass – 2023
Back to where it all began three years ago, Quarry Pond. We had our first shake-down camping trip at Quarry Pond in December of 2020 with our T@b Trailer named Baby Ruth.
So, after two cross-country trips to North Carolina, one to Missouri and several to California and Arizona, we've come full circle.
This time we were joined by Kirk and Lynda. We had so much fun! During our 4 days and 3 nights we enjoyed:
- Late night talks around the campfire
- Bike rides along Cranberry Lake and through scenic Deception Pass State park
- Walks on the beach
- The rumble of low overhead Navy jets practicing their maneuvers
- Dominoes and Cribbage
But our fun time was not without some adversity. The first night our electrical system went out completely, while plugged into shore power! That shouldn't happen in 1 1/2 year old Winnebago Trailer that we purchased new, but it did.
We still had DC power, the battery being hooked up to a solar panel which refreshed the battery daily. Still, we had to be careful with our battery usage so that there was enough juice to pull in the slider when it was time to leave. The battery never got below 12.5.
The propane refrigerator, furnace and stove top all worked. We borrowed an extension cord from Kirk and Lynda and hooked it up to a portable electric heater to conserve energy.
Kirk and I did some trouble-shooting with our multi-meters, but could not determine the source of the problem. We had a surge protector that showed we were receiving 124 Volts coming into our rig, within the safe range. We turned off and on all of the breakers and checked all the fuses that we could easily get to. We'll need to let the professionals take over from here.
Another weird thing happened while we were there. Upon returning from our bike ride, the campground was full of fire trucks and emergency vehicles. One of our neighbor's rigs had caught fire. Fortunately, no one was injured, but their Class C was completely destroyed.
But we didn't let the adversity dampen our spirits. Rain had been in the forecast for our time at Quarry Pond and it rained heavily the first night, but after that we had very little rain, a few sprinkles really, and beautiful sunshine in the afternoons.
Thank you Kirk and Lynda for the wonderful time!
