Old World Gingerbread Village, Mapleton, OR
We departed from Copalis and the incessant cold rain in search of sunshine. And, we found it! Driving down I-5 in Central Oregon the clouds parted and the skies turned blue.
It warmed up to 54 degrees, but it seemed alot warmer after four days at the ocean.
We spent the night in a Harvest Host location in Mapleton, OR, called the Old World Gingerbread House. It is owned by a lady whose family had lived in the area for generations. She shared her family photo album with pictures dating back to 1914.
She left the Mapleton, OR area and moved to San Francisco for several years. After spending a lot of time in the restaurant industry down there, she moved back and bought the restaurant.
Karen and I both ordered the Thanksgiving dinner special, which included turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes with melted marshmellows, bacon green beans and fresh baked bread. It was delicious. The plates were enormous and we did our best to finish them, and came close.
We ordered a couple of ginger bread cookies for dessert, saving them for the next day. They also were outstanding! Her grandma's old recipe. Thank you for the wonderful hospitality!
