Kite Festival, Long Beach, WA, 2022
Ed and Betty invited us to join them at Long Beach for the 2022 International Kite Festival. We stayed at Marv and Terri's place, on a little inlet, about 20 - 25 minutes from where the festival is held.
For Karen and I, it was the first time we experienced the Kite Festival, so many unique kites, and so many skilled teams of flyers.
While we were there we also:
- Learned how to fly a two string kite and attempted to learn on a four string
- Saw two massive bull elk down by the beach from about 50 yards away
- Took a day trip to Astoria
- Visited the Column in Astoria, Ed and I climbed the spiral staircase, all 164 stairs, to the top and tossed balsa wood airplanes over the side (they sell them for $1 each there)
- Played cribbage
- Had a delicious meal at the local Thai food restaurant
- Visited two lighthouses
- Saw an old shipwreck
- Visited the Oysterville Sea Farm
- Watched the Seahawks get outplayed by the Chicago Bears in a pre-season game, 24 - 0 at one point
- Enjoyed all the wildlife in the area, lots of deer, raccoons, owls, geese, heron, elk
What a great time! Good, clean fun. And it turns out, pigs can fly! And penguins, and whales, and giant puppy dogs and ....
