Fort Casey, January 2023

Fort Casey again?  Yes, two months in a row!  With our Senior Winter Pass, it's only $10/day for a site with electrical through April 30, so we're taking advantage.  We stayed three nights, Sunday - Wednesday.

This time we went with Ed & Betty, and two of their long-time friends, Jim and Deb.

We were blessed with great weather, cold, but dry.  Highs were in the mid-30s the first two days and we spent most of the time outside, either hiking around or sitting near the campfire.

The night sky was amazing!  The first night was crystal clear and we sat outside near the fire and watched satellites cruise by.  The second night was partly cloudy and the moon had an amazing ring around it.

We looked up what the ring means and several articles said it means a storm is coming.  Well, a storm didn't arrive but the next morning we woke up to snow flurries.  That was fun!

They were re-building some sort of boat launch or breakwater structure near the ferry dock.  I couldn't believe how loud they were and what long hours they worked, sometimes until 11pm, starting up again at 3 or 4am.  They probably had to work around the tides schedule.  With our heater going in the trailer, the white noise helped us to sleep better, but it was still somewhat annoying at those hours.  It wasn't as peaceful as usual.

One evening we had a game night with the six of us.  We played "Blank Slate" which was a lot of fun. You draw cards from a box that have words on it like "Hot ____" and you fill in the blank.  You get points by matching your answer with other people's answers.

We also played cribbage with Ed and Betty, guys vs gals.  Despite our other shortcomings, the guys were victorious!

Ed, Betty, Jim and Deb took the Clinton-Mukilteo ferry back home, while Karen and I decided to drive around.

Another fun trip to Fort Casey in the books!
