Fort Casey – 2nd Outing

Our 2nd outing was spent at beautiful Fort Casey, WA, January 22nd - 24th. The setting was remarkable, right on the water, close to the ferry terminal, with an expansive view of Puget Sound and the Olympic mountains. The weather was a carbon copy of our first outing, clear and cold, never getting above 40 degrees, then rain and wind on Sunday morning.  In between, we had walks on the beach, a very cold bike ride to the lighthouse, all of Fort Casey and the surrounding neighborhood.

Even though we had a full hook-up available, our intention was to go without shore power and water hook-up.

We lasted until Friday evening when Karen went to make coffee with her baby Keurig machine.  I was under the mistaken impression that the outlets would work off the battery like the lights and water pump.

The good news is that the propane heater worked fantastically.  It kept us warm and was quieter than its electric counterpart.

To solve the "boondocking" issue, how to survive without power and water, we decided to consider purchasing a generator or an energy storage device.

Over the weekend we tested out a prototype for the Lagun table-top.  So far, we are loving this table.  No more knocking knees on the T-shaped support bars.  No more struggling to get out.  The Lagun provides leg room and flexibility we would never have gotten with the original table.  I will be working on a new table-top now that we know this plywood prototype worked.

We left for home on Sunday in a driving rain storm. After we got home we noticed water on the floor of the trailer.  Something we need to further investigate.

Overall, the weekend was a big success.
