Firenze, Italy

June 1 - 3

We had our last delicious breakfast at Il Pirata in Vernazza before boarding the train to Firenze. There were two train changes, one in La Spezia and one in Pisa, but it went smoothly.

Our hotel in Firenze, Il Bargellino was a short walk from the Santa Maria Novella train station.  It is run by Carmel, a Boston native, met her husband while in school in Firenze, fell in love and never looked back.

The rooms were spacious compared to what we had in the Cinque Terre.  And the outdoor patio area was a nice place to hang out.

While in Florence we:

  • Visited the Academia (David), the Medici Palace and the Uffizi Gallery
  • Went to Mass at the Duomo with Ed, Betty and Ann
  • Had two or three meals at the Mercato Centrale, a giant Italian food court
  • Walked to the Ponte Vecchio
  • Bought leather goods at the Street Market
  • Played cribbage and drank wine on the terrace
  • Ate gelato
  • Visited the Piazza di Michaelangelo
