Deception Pass, July 2023

We camped at Deception Pass State Park, from Friday, 7/28 to Monday 7/31.  This campsite was strategically close to Anacortes where our nephew Eric and Taylor's wedding took place on Saturday.

When we arrived at the state park, we instantly donned our sweat shirts to handle the 67 degree weather!  It was refreshing after the 100 degree plus temperatures we experienced our last eight days of vacation.

We started our weekend on Friday with a rooftop welcome celebration that Taylor and Eric had planned.

The drive back to our campground graced us with a beautiful orange sunset.

Saturday morning after breakfast, we walked through the campground, along Cranberry Lake, to the west beach, then looped around to the north beach and through the campground on the way back.

Later, we got ready for the wedding in our trailer and emerged feeling overdressed for the campground, but ready for the wedding celebration.

The wedding itself was one of the most heartwarming we've ever been to.  Eric and Taylor wrote and recited their vows.  They were so genuine!  It set the tone for the entire evening, which went well into the night.

It was so great to spend time with family and friends and be truly present for this special event.

While we stayed at Deception, we also:

  • Rode bikes on the Anacortes bike trail
  • Played cribbage
  • Enjoyed a campfire and cooked toast on our coleman toaster
  • Walked on the beach
  • Watched our nieces feed cows (we love those nieces to pieces!)
  • Ate lunch in Anacortes at the Brown Lantern Bar
  • Had a close encounter with a chipmunk that jumped on the picnic table, then Steve's empty chair and  side table, before coming face-to-face with Karen in her chair and then ran off
  • Enjoyed our campsite bunnies
