Days 8, 9, 10 & 11 Arrowhead Campground, NC

On Thursday, March 25th, we traveled from Murfreesboro, TN to Arrowhead Campground in North Carolina.

On the advice of the locals in Murfreesboro, we got up at 4am and left at 4:50am to get ahead of the severe thunderstorm and tornado threat.  The drive was rainy and nasty until we were within an hour or two of our final destination.  Then it got sunny and nice.

We arrived at Arrowhead Campground at 3:30pm and were greeted with 80 degrees and sunshine!  The camp was sparsely populated.  We set up camp and settled in, knowing that Melissa, Mark, Tegen, Evelyn, Piper and Tripp would be arriving the next day.

The weather soon changed and we had a massive thunderstorm, but fortunately no tornados.

On Friday morning we slept in until 8:30am.  It felt great to not set an alarm!  We had a light breakfast.  A short time later we heard a huge crack. A very large tree fell just missing a campsite.  Fortunately, it was Friday morning and the campsite wasn't occupied.  By Friday night, almost every site was filled, including the one where the tree fell.

Melissa and family arrived about 6:15pm.  What a wonderful sight to see them pull in.  Hugs all around!

They brought their tiny dog Tikki, whom we met for the first time.

We had brats, potato salad, green salad and baked beans, plus some adult beverages.

On Saturday, we went for a hike in the woods, about three miles.  It was hot, 82 degrees with 90 percent humidity.  We enjoyed each others company all day, until another thunderstorm rolled in Saturday evening.  Again it poured, but thankfully no tornados, even though it was a possibility.

We left early Sunday morning, Palm Sunday, and took the 3.5 hour drive back to Melissa and Mark's house, stopping for a brief lunch at Hardee's.  At Melissa's we were greeted with 82 degrees and sunshine.  We had a brief thunderstorm in the evening, but it passed quickly.
