Days 12 – 18, at Melissa & Mark’s
We spent the next week with Melissa, Mark and four of our grandkids. Mark took the whole week off of work. During that time we celebrated Piper's 4th birthday and Evelyn's 6th birthday. We also made numerous memories with the family that included:
- A trip to the beach to find shark's teeth and sea shells
- Dinner at a Sushi Restaurant
- A trip to the junkyard to purchase some much needed parts for Tegen's Jeep
- Watching Mark & Tegen install a window regulator, an alternator and rear brake drums all in the same afternoon.
- Having Piper teach us how to gather eggs from the hen house
- Hitting golf balls with Tegen at the driving range and playing putt-putt golf
- Watching movies with the kids like Puss & Boots (Kitty Soft Paws!) and the Croods
- Eating family dinners together
- Playing frisbee with Tegen
- Watching their two dogs chase each other around the yard
- Visiting the Hobby Shop with Tegen and then watching him meticulously put together his new tank model
- Playing the game 7 Wonders with Melissa, Mark and Tegen
- Playing cribbage with Tegen
- Going to church on Easter Sunday
- Playing at the on-base park on Easter Sunday afternoon
Karen and I slept in the trailer. Evelyn was so excited that we were there that she often knocked on our trailer door early in the morning to see if we were up yet.
Evelyn was recently diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, so while we were there, we learned how to evaluate her blood sugar level and administer injections as needed. This allowed Mark and Melissa to enjoy a dinner out without kids, a rarity for them.
It was especially great to experience all of the grandkid's personalities in person, rather than just on Facetime.
It was wonderful spending time with Melissa & Mark and we greatly enjoyed our conversations on various topics.
It had been 15 months since we had been able to visit them due to COVID. Our much anticipated reunion created so many wonderful memories. It was a fabulous stay and we can't wait to visit again!
