Day 34, Zion National Park

When we arrived at Zion River RV Park, located just outside Zion National Park, we discovered that our campsite, #74, was a few feet from the children's play area, next to a big dumpster, and adjacent to the dog park.  There were several children being really loud and generally having a good time, but after the long drive, Karen wasn't too happy.  But the sun went down, it got dark and the kids disappeared.  After 9pm the campground was silent.

We asked to stay for a 2nd night so we could explore Zion more fully.  They only had one site available, so we moved to campsite 78, which was great.  We spent the day hiking and driving around.  However, they don't let you drive your car into the main Canyon area, you have to take a shuttle.

We contemplated purchasing tickets for $30 to $40 per person, but then found out that after 2pm, shuttle tickets were free.  So, we boarded a shuttle and were able to experience the main Canyon area.

It was an amazing contrast. These high rock walls that jut up from the ground and tower above at 200 - 300 feet.  This compared with a tree lined river, and generally flat area between the walls which was great for hiking and exploring.

The temperature was just above 80 degrees.  We realized that since North Carolina, every day had been 80 degrees or higher!  We got spoiled!

Feeling fortunate that we got to explore this amazing national park!

After spending the day at the park, we decided to eat out at this roadside burger joint, which we noticed was packed the night before.  They claimed to have the best Buffalo Burger anywhere.  Since Karen and I had never had a Buffalo Burger we had to try it. We ordered one Buffalo Burger and one Wagyu Burger.  The Buffalo was great.  The Wagyu was even better!  Wagyu are Japanese bred cattle.  It might be the best burger I've ever had.

Our stay at Zion ended with a beautiful sunset at the RV park and a good night's rest.
