Camp David, Labor Day Weekend

We spent an extended four day Labor Day weekend at David and Cathy's near Belfair, WA.  We camped alongside their home, so we called it Camp David.

They hosted a fun party with family and friends on Sunday, which included some delicious food and interesting conversation.

Dick and I reminisced about the old Seattle Times days.  He was a distribution manager there for many years. In those days, it seemed like the newspaper which had a 100 year history, would be there another 100 years.  Dick told me that in addition to the downtown plant, the Woodinville plant was also gone now!

I still remember when the Woodinville plant was brand new.  Frank Blethen, the publisher, and Times management were so proud of it.  In the 90's, they had these little robots that moved the huge rolls of paper around that were then loaded onto the press as part of the printing process.  They even had a false wall that could be removed to add a fifth printing press down the road in order to increase future capacity.  That never happened.

David, Cathy, Karen and I spent Monday afternoon in quaint downtown Poulsbo.  We also visited the Japanese Exclusion Memorial on Bainbridge Island.

Fun weekend!  Can't wait until the next time we get to visit Camp David.
