Joshua Tree, Indian Cove Campground, CA

We arrived in Joshua tree as the sun was going down, but had plenty of time to set up our campsite before dark. Surprisingly, our tent attachment fit, but we had to park our truck parallel to the road instead of in the campsite. It worked fine.

After we got set up and had a chance to look around, we realized what an amazing place this is. Large boulders everywhere made it feel like the Flintstones.

It warmed up to the mid 70s during the day and into the low 40s at night. Very comfortable. And when the sun went down, we were treated to a night sky that was out of this world!

Verizon cell service was shaky, between no bars in occasionally one bar. So I set up the WeBoost antenna and the Solis hotspot, and consistently got two bars of cell service and amazingly fast Internet. I almost couldn’t tell the difference between here and home, which blew me away!

We took two hikes. One on the Boy Scout Trail, 30 minutes out and 30 minutes back. Amazing terrain, lots of cactus and plenty fire ants, which we completely avoided. The other on the Indian Cove Trail which was short and easy but had some interesting terrain.

At night, we started a campfire which kept us warm for a couple of hours after dark.

The Joshua Trees were also other worldly and looked like something out of a Dr. Seuss Book.

Gas prices in California were averaging $4.80/gallon, $1/gallon more than anywhere else.  We waited until Arizona to fill up again, where it was $3.70/gallon.

Karen cut my hair for the first time and did a great job. It will never be as good as Jeannie’s, but saving money where we can is our goal in retirement. We want to stretch those dollars!
