Clam Digging in Copalis, WA
With Karen being newly retired, we had the luxury of leaving on a Sunday morning, very light traffic. We followed Ed & Betty who were traveling in their Winnebago, pulling their truck.
The trip to Copalis went smoothly and we arrived at our destination around noon.
Upon arrival, we met Ed and Betty's good friends, Jim, Deb, Rory and Lisa.
We braved the elements and put up our tent attachment during a torrential wind and rain event. We got soaked.
After relayering and lunch, we got ready to go Razor Clam digging in the same weather. The five diggers who had licenses limited in less than 30 minutes, 15 clams apiece. Karen and I hadn't dug for clams since childhood and the experience was fun and rewarding.
We had good teachers and equipment. Thank you Ed and Betty! They showed us how to spot the Razor Clam mounds and how to differentiate them from a wormhole.
After clam digging the first night, we rewarded ourselves by watching the end of the Rams/49'ers game in the Green Lantern Bar just down the road. That night topped off with Whiskeys of various sorts.
We learned how to clean Razor Clams and six people made quick work of it.
We enjoyed long walks on the beach and a fantastic lunch and tastings at the Westport Winery.
Ed's birthday was celebrated with breakfast burritos by Lisa and clam chowder by Betty. Ed also fried up a batch of delicious Razor clams, some spicy and some not so spicy.
Needless to say, we ate like Kings (and Queens) all week. Thank you for the invitation Ed and Betty. Let's do it again!
The weather looks uncertain to be sure. Don’t believe we’ve met your travel buddies, but they look like a fun bunch. Love the photos, and love our ocean. Hope you are staying warm ( and as dry as possible). Have a great road trip and enjoy the next segment of your journey. Happy to see any and all pictures you want to send our way. Love to you both. Dad and Mom ❤️
Great Start 👍👍
