Leavenworth, WA

We spent four lovely days at Icicle Creek RV campground in Leavenworth.

This time we had some obstacles to overcome, the weather and our RV slide-out.

It was hot, I mean really hot! Over 100 the first three days, hitting 108 on Wednesday. Thursday it cooled off to the mid 90s and felt pretty good.

When we arrived, we got set up but our slider wasn’t working. We did some research and discovered there was two blinking red lights under the slide-out unit. This meant the battery was not delivering enough juice to open the slider. The only way to reset it, according to Ryan’s RV, was to remove the positive battery cable, then put it back on.  I was unwilling to do that because I concerned it might get stuck out instead of getting stuck in, which would’ve been worse.

So we made an appointment with Ryan’s RV and kept the slider in for the whole four days. It was a little cramped, but functional.

Our campsite was right on the river, which had pluses and minuses. It was breathtakingly, beautiful, but surprisingly loud. We almost had to yell to hear each other over the roaring river. Still, it was a beautiful spot. We scoped out some other great campsites in this very nice RV park and hope to stay here again next summer, just further away from the river.

While we were in Leavenworth, we:

  • Road bikes into town and explored waterfront park and enchantment park, ignoring the beware of bears signs
  • Made several trips to a nearby river bay all that stuff, and in a shallow area to cool off.
  • Swam for about three hours at the public pool
  • Ate some delicious home-cooked meals plus a couple out, lunch at Heidlburger and dinner at Leavenworth golf course
  • Stopped at Starbucks for a refresher, for Karen so she could carry on in the heat for the bike ride.
  • Strolled up and down Main Street in Leavenworth to the various shops, including a fantastic sporting good store, and of course the Hat Shop. The Mad Hatter is now the hat shop, about half the size and full of all sorts and games and trinkets, unfortunately not the same vibe as it used to have.
  • We spent evenings playing cribbage in our pop-up insect-free clamshell unit, and Karen prevailed most of the time.
