Milan, Italy
May 24th - May 27th
Chris picked us up at our house at noon on May 24th. The freeway was crowded with Memorial Day traffic, but we made it to the airport a little after 1 PM. We met Dan and Ann there, who had taken the light rail and proceeded to wait for the condor check-in desk to open at 2:30 PM.
We checked our rolling suitcases and then went through security which took over an hour. We boarded the plane about 4:45 PM. Karen watched the Book Club 2 and I watched Unfrosted and the first episode of the Chosen. We tried to sleep a bit on the 10+ hour flight, and we may have fallen asleep for an hour or two.
We changed planes in Frankfurt Germany, went through customs, took a bus to our next plane and got into Milan – Malpenza airport about 7 PM Saturday, with the 9 hour time difference.
We took a train to Milano Central, walked to the Best Hotel, dropped off our bags, then walked to CIU’s buffet restaurant. Came back to the hotel and crashed! Over 24 hours of almost no sleep.
On Sunday, we met Ed and Betty at the train station and helped them bring their luggage back to the hotel. We will be traveling with the six of us for the next two weeks.
While in Milan we:
- Visited the Duomo, twice, once walking and once using the Metro subway. The second time Steve, Ann, Ed and Betty got tickets to go inside, while Karen and Don enjoyed an Aperol Spritz and a Pepsi.
- Visited the Galleria Victor Emanuelle outdoor mall
- Don and Ed spun with their heals on the "balls of the bull", a tradition
- Walked by the Guiseppi Verdi Opera House
- Ate at Ciu's twice
- Ate at Spontini's twice
- Took a day trip to Lake Como, an hour away by train.
