Fort Casey, December 2022
There was still 4 or 5 inches of snow on the ground when we left our home on December 5th, headed to Fort Casey for the third time. We had 7 inches on Tuesday, November 29th, then 3 more inches on Friday, December 2nd. Not much had melted since we had sub-freezing temperatures most of that time.
We were surprised when we got north of Marysville, there was hardly any snow at all.
We pulled into Fort Casey and the weather was decent, 38 degrees and mostly cloudy, but no wind, rain or snow. We set up in about 30 minutes, then went for a walk on the beach.
We hadn't gone far when we saw a sea lion frolicking in the water just off shore. We saw so many sea lions over the next couple of days, we couldn't believe it.
At Fort Casey, we had electricity, but no water or sewage hook up. We bought a WA State Off-season Senior Pass for about $70, which allows us to camp as much as we want at state parks until March 31st, 2023, for free. The only cost is if the park has electricity, they charge you $10 a night.
While we were at Fort Casey we:
- Went for walks on the beach
- Hiked up to the old fort and lighthouse
- Walked onto the ferry to Port Townsend and explored the downtown area, including a hot toddy at the Old Whiskey Mill
- Played cribbage
- Listened to Christmas music
- Karen knitted some stockings for Christmas gifts
- Watched some World Cup soccer, Morocco beat Spain!
The weather was pretty decent for this time of year. Can't wait to come back and stay longer, maybe explore more nearby towns.
Great pics BroHam!! Love the Sea lion clips!
How fun, good for you two – to get out there & enjoy it all..!
