KOA – West St. Louis
Our next destination was a KOA camp in West St. Louis.
On the way, we decided to check out the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. We made our first stop at Bulleit Distillery. At 11am I had a delicious slushy made of cold brew coffee, bourbon and Bailey's Irish Cream. So delicious! Then before we bought a bottle of bourbon, I thought we should test them out. A couple of 5 ounce pours later, I knew I would not be driving for a while. So our first stop on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail, became our only stop.
To get to St. Louis, we drove from Kentucky, through Indiana, Illinois and Missouri. It was our first time being to any of those states.
On the way to our KOA campsite, GPS mis-routed us to a state park. Fortunately, it was only about 10 minutes away from where we were supposed to go. We arrived at 6pm, which seemed like 7pm to us because we crossed a time-zone.
Once we found the place, their friendly staff said they had an emergency and asked us if we would mind moving to a spot where we needed to unhook the trailer. We politely declined and they found us a nice, quiet, level pull through site. Quiet because it backed up to a corner of a cemetery! We didn't mind, though. After all, as a child I walked to Christ the King school everyday through Washelli cemetary, even in the dead of winter when it was still dark out!
The KOA staff was extra friendly. They had a cute little gift shop and we treated ourselves to ice cream.
Being close to Six Flags, this KOA catered to kids. They had these really cool bicycle-like contraptions that kids could check-out and use throughout the park. They also had this massive bouncy thingy, which looked like a giant pillow but made of rubber, 80' x 30', surrounded on all sides by soft sand. The ultimate in bouncy toys if you were a kid.
Our stay was short. We got up at 5am and were on the road by 6am, headed to our next fun experience!
