KOA – Montgomery, Alabama

We crossed three states today, Lousiana, Mississippi and Alabama. We also took a bridge over the Mississippi River and arrived in Montgomery, Alabama mid-afternoon. And you guessed it, it was super hot!

I told the gentleman at the front desk that we hadn't had any precipitation, not a drop, since it snowed on us in Montana over three weeks ago.  I had no idea that was about to change.

I knew that Montgomery had a high crime rate, way above the national average, but this place felt safe.

Right after we arrived a state patrol pulled through the campground.  I was glad to see him.  Then a short time later, a police helicopter began circling overhead, definitely looking for someone.

Our campsite had a great view, a couple hundred acres of pastureland, tall grass surrounded by thick treed vegetation.  I imagined that scene from "Oh Brother Where Art Thou" where the three shackled convicts jumped up out of the tall grass, ran a few yards, then got back down again.

We found out the next day that there was a juvenile prison a short distance from the campground.

There were no safety issues during our stay and the people in the campground were generally friendly.

That evening, the weather changed.  A storm came up rather quickly and we had thunder, lightning and rain for a few hours. But it stopped just in time to produce a beautiful sunset.  Imagine that!

We enjoyed our stay but happy to be moving on to greener pastures.
